We truly enjoyed our three night stay at Flagg Ranch. The proximity to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone was perfect. The 1 mile hike to the natural hot springs for a soak was great. The bathrooms were clean and showers hot, in spite of very heavy use. Our site was spacious and we never felt crowded by neighbors. The staff assured we had a site with water and electric next to our cousins with just a tent site. It was a wonderful stay, but the $50 per night and the high cost of everything in the lodge makes me mark down my rating.
We made a last minute decision to stay here while traveling out west and wish we had a day to spare to stay another night. The campground is located in a town park and had a large lake with walking trails on one side and the fairgrounds on the the other. Being the 4th of July weekend, we saw beautiful fireworks and the Pony Express Rodeo was going on at the fairgrounds. Even with the commotion, the hosts were very nice. The campground was tightly packed and there was some modest noise and firworks from other campers, but this eneded by 10:00. The restrooms were clean and the showers hot. We hope to return to stay longer next trip.
This was a very nice campground. The campground was nearly empty and we had our chose of sites. The lake was pretty and had numerous activities available nearby, including the municipal pool. When making a reservation, we requested water and electric. We were given both, but the water was a long distance from the electric box (50'), so we settled on electric only. While the bathrooms were clean, they were in need of remodeling. The floors were chipped concrete and the showers had a pull chain, thus difficult for my young son to use.
This was a nice campground for traveling. We pulled off after a long day on the road and found the campground clean and the staff very nice. We enjoyed the swimming pool and used the laundry. All were clean. Our only complaint was the proximity to I-80 gave us some highway noise. Overall, it was good for a quick stop.
This was a nice campground with clean restrooms/showers. The playground and pool were wonderful for our children. The campground was packed full when we arrived for a pig-picking weekend. Surrounded by large rigs on tiny sties, we felt claustrophobic in our little pop-up. The sites were just too close together for our liking.
We stayed here on a trip out west. The gates were left open for late arriving travelers off I-70. The campsite was clean and the table in good repair. The restrooms were also clean with hot showers. The host was personable and shared information about the park and area. The cave was a nice short hike before getting on the road again. The late arrival was a definite plus, but the summer mosquitoes were horrible!
This was the first open campground between Ten Sleep and Buffalo. It is a typical National Forest campground. A big loop with 20 sites. Most back-in but some pull-through. The restrooms were pit toilets, but surprisingly clean and well maintained. There was water available through a hand pump. We did notice a dump station 10 miles up the road. The campground was great for the night we stayed, but we noticed a number of people with two week reservations set up with big rigs and travel trailers. There were also plentiful wildlife and splendid views.
This was a wonderful campground for our family. We stayed five nights with two small children and we all enjoyed our stay. The restrooms were very clean. The showers were hot, except one day (we slept in and my wife tried showering about 10 am). The campsites were clean. The host and staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The playground was well maintained and there were evening naturalist talks in the campground. We were very convenient to all the parks, sites, and the Town of Custer. The only thing keeping it from being a 10 is the lake of water at each site.
We had another nice stay at West Morris Mountain over the Memorial Day weekend. A work crew had been in to clean up the sites and trails. The clean-up resulted in cut wood being available for fires. The campground was over half filled, but remained quiet. The restrooms were clean and well stocked.
Carolina Beach State Part is definitely organized for tents, pop-ups, and smaller RVs. Most sites are back-in with a few pull through. The bath houses were clean and accessible from most sites. The sites on the second loop provide more space and have more foliage between them for privacy. There were some noisy groups while we stayed there, but the rangers were prompt in confronting the offenders. Hiking trails around the park are clearly marked and well maintained. For 2009, the marina is closed for repair. My only complaint is that much of the forest areas underwent a controlled burn in the fall and this was not announced on the website. Otherwise, it was a wonderful campground to stay in.
We camped at Parkers Creek in the group tent area. We enjoyed the camp site. It was well organized, clean, and the trash was picked up daily. The fire ring was well positioned with benches for 40. Access to the lake was convenient from the campsite. The bathroom facilities could have used a thorough cleaning. The beach area and playground were enjoyed by the children.
Arrowhead Campground was wonderful. The campground was mostly open during our visit and we had our choice of sites. The sites were clean with a fire pit and picnic table available. The campground is encircled by a paved walking/bike riding trail that our children enjoyed. Access to the lake is nearby by foot path and road. A boat ramp is also close to the campground. The electricity was a nice addition over the Badin Lake campground. Our only concern were the road conditions to get to the campground. The dirt/gravel roads need grating and repair.
If you are self-contained, small (under 24'), and looking for a rustic campground, West Morris Mountain is perfect. Part of the Uwharrie National Forest, West Morris Mountain provides easy access for hiking in the Uwharrie Mountains. The campground has vault toilets, but no water or other amenities. The campsites are on a paved loop and offer privacy for campers. It was great for a one night campout with our children.
